Group/ client
Srinakharinwirot University, Faculty of Humanities, Masters students of Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Issues they faced
The students concerned were looking to answer big questions such as ‘what are my hopes and fears for the future’.  Some big issues were considered such as health, getting older and the dispersal of families as children leave home for work or study. As the participants had not known each other for long it was also  important to bond the group.

Solutions offered
The Enterprise Centre team used  a technique called the ‘Future Workshop’ which has its origin in the USA and in Germany. It is a technique which focuses on visioning, the harnessing and use of emotional intelligence to resolve difficult questions within a group setting. The methods are very hands on and interactive and are enjoyed by participants although some serious problems are tackled.

Students can use these techniques alongside other visioning and interactive learning strategies and complete the Certificate in Personal Mastery at the Centre.

Impacts
The Enterprise Centre team work alongside Hopwood Hall College in Manchester to provide innovative teaching and learning sessions. Twice, students from the sibling university in Bangkok have engaged in the Future Workshop methodology and the response is overwhelmingly positive. The team also deliver a cross-cultural communication session at the University in Bangkok which also highlights an interactive learning methodology and highlights the issues to be resolved when East meets West.

What they say ………..
‘I learnt to adapt myself to work with other people’.
‘There were closer relationships among the group when working co-operatively.’
‘I learnt an innovative and creative way of presentation and analysing a
social problem’.
